糖尿病病人因周邊神經病變（Peripheral Neuropathy），常導致足部痛覺與溫度覺喪失，病人可能受傷卻不自知。足部潰瘍是糖尿病常見的嚴重併發症，若未及時發現，易引發感染甚至截肢。因此，每日檢查足部（Inspect feet）是預防潰瘍惡化的最重要護理措施。其他行為如赤腳行走或使用熱敷墊，皆會增加受傷與灼傷的風險，應嚴格禁止。
Clients with diabetes often have peripheral neuropathy, which causes loss of pain and temperature sensation in the feet; injuries may occur without the patient's awareness. Foot ulcers are a serious and common complication of diabetes and, if undetected, can lead to infection and even amputation. Therefore, daily foot inspection is the most important nursing measure to prevent ulcer progression. Other behaviors such as walking barefoot or using heating pads increase the risk of injury and burns and should be strictly avoided.
