低血鈣導致神經肌肉過度興奮。特魯索氏徵象（Trousseau's）與楚氏徵象（Chvostek's）為臨床特徵。肌肉抽搐甚至喉部痙攣（Stridor）可能危及呼吸。腸蠕動通常會因過度興奮而增加，而非減少。
Hypocalcemia causes increased neuromuscular excitability. Trousseau's and Chvostek's signs are characteristic clinical findings. Muscle twitching and even laryngeal spasm (stridor) can compromise breathing. Bowel motility usually increases due to hyperexcitability rather than decreasing.
