The edrophonium (Tensilon) test is the classic diagnostic test for myasthenia gravis. The drug rapidly inhibits acetylcholine breakdown, causing transient improvement in muscle strength and thereby confirming the diagnosis. Atropine must be available to prevent parasympathetic side effects such as bradycardia.
