Tuberculosis is an airborne disease. When the client must leave the negative-pressure isolation room for transport, the client must wear a surgical mask to reduce droplet dispersion. The caregiver or transporter must wear an N95 respirator. The N95 is not appropriate for the client to wear because of its excessive breathing resistance.
