吞嚥困難病人應將食物放置在口腔中強健側（Stronger side），以利於咀嚼與控制食團。應教導「縮下巴（Chin-tuck）」而非頭後仰，以保護氣道。應避免使用吸管（易導致過快且難以控制的流速）及大口進食。
For a client with dysphagia, food should be placed on the stronger side of the mouth to support chewing and bolus control. The client should be taught to perform the chin-tuck maneuver rather than tilt the head back, in order to protect the airway. Straws (which produce a fast, hard-to-control flow) and large bites should be avoided.
