空氣隔離（Airborne Precautions）適用於病原體能經由空氣傳播的疾病，如肺結核（TB）、水痘或麻疹。這些病原體懸浮在小於 5 微米的微粒中，一般的醫用口罩無法過濾。N95 呼吸防護器（Respirator）必須經過適合度測試（Fit Test）以確保密封性，能有效阻隔微小病原體。臨床照護時，除穿戴防護裝備外，病人應安置於負壓隔離病房（Negative Pressure Room）以維持空氣流向。
Airborne precautions are required for diseases such as tuberculosis, varicella, and measles. Pathogens are suspended in particles smaller than 5 microns, which surgical masks cannot filter. An N95 respirator that has been fit-tested provides effective protection. The client should also be placed in a negative pressure isolation room to control airflow.
在美國，N95 必須每年進行 Fit Test 以確保密合度；台灣醫院雖亦有規定，但美國 OSHA 對於呼吸器保護計畫（Respiratory Protection Program）的要求極為嚴格且具法律強制性。
