Arterial line care: prior to insertion, perform Allen's test to assess collateral circulation; use a pressurized bag to maintain line patency; regularly assess distal peripheral circulation (color, pulse); and level the transducer at the phlebostatic axis to ensure measurement accuracy. Administration of medications through an arterial line is strictly prohibited, as it can cause severe vasospasm and tissue necrosis.
