Ventrogluteal（臀中肌）部位肌肉厚實，血管與神經分布較少，且適合容納較大體積（如 2mL）的藥物。三角肌通常限制在 1mL 以內，背臀部因鄰近坐骨神經較危險，現已較少作為首選部位。因此，腹臀部是目前臨床公認最安全的成人肌肉注射位置。
The ventrogluteal site has thick muscle with few major vessels or nerves and accommodates larger volumes such as 2 mL. The deltoid is limited to about 1 mL. The dorsogluteal site lies near the sciatic nerve and is now less preferred. Therefore, the ventrogluteal site is currently considered the safest adult IM site.
