The guiding principle for insulin administration is 'safety first.' Before giving the dose, the nurse must verify the client's current blood glucose level to prevent hypoglycemia, particularly with rapid-acting or short-acting insulin. Although site rotation (B) is important, compared to verifying the blood glucose level it is a secondary concern; the latter is the essential prerequisite before administration.
