發生給藥錯誤（Medication error）時，護理師的首要任務是「病人安全」。第一時間應立即評估病人的生命徵象與臨床狀態，以判斷是否出現藥物不良反應，並採取必要的急救措施。隨後才進行醫師通知、填寫事件報告（Incident Report/Variance Report）。事件報告是為了品質改善（Quality Improvement）而設計，嚴禁放入病歷中，以免成為法律訴訟的證據。
When a medication error occurs, the nurse's priority is to assess the client for adverse effects to ensure patient safety.
