Postoperative changes in vital signs require a high level of vigilance. A sudden drop in blood pressure and tachycardia (110 bpm) often suggest hypovolemic shock or internal bleeding; bright red drainage on the dressing indicates active bleeding. Decreased bowel motility is common early after surgery, and low-grade fever is often a normal metabolic response. While these latter findings warrant observation, they are not immediately life-threatening events requiring urgent notification.
