Room numbers are not unique identifiers because clients may be moved, so they cannot be used to verify identity. The nurse should also ensure that the client takes the medication before leaving the bedside, to prevent missed or accidental doses. Clinically, the safety priorities are: right patient, right drug, right dose, right route, and right time.
