Explanation ·

The symptoms of hypoglycemia fall into two main categories: adrenergic (autonomic) symptoms and neuroglycopenic (central nervous system) symptoms. When blood glucose drops sharply, the body compensates by releasing epinephrine, causing diaphoresis, tremors, and tachycardia. If blood glucose remains low, the brain becomes deprived of glucose, leading to confusion, altered consciousness, and even coma. The nurse must be familiar with these signs in order to intervene in a timely manner.
