Piperacillin-tazobactam is a penicillin-class antibiotic. A rash often represents an early manifestation of an allergic reaction and is especially common with penicillin derivatives. Although most rashes are mild, to prevent progression to severe anaphylactic shock or Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), the nurse must take precautionary measures and immediately notify the physician to determine whether to continue the medication.
