機械通氣（Mechanical ventilation）是針對急性呼吸衰竭的呼吸支持療法。適應症包括：氧氣治療後仍無法維持足夠血氧（Hypoxemia）、呼吸肌疲勞導致無法自主維持足夠通氣量、無法代償的急性呼吸性酸中毒，以及上呼吸道阻塞導致空氣無法進入肺部。這些狀況若不及時介入，皆會導致缺氧甚至死亡。
Mechanical ventilation is indicated for acute respiratory failure, including refractory hypoxemia despite oxygen therapy, respiratory muscle fatigue, severe respiratory acidosis, and upper airway obstruction. These conditions compromise adequate gas exchange and require immediate ventilatory support to prevent death.
