Epinephrine is a nonselective sympathomimetic that acts on both alpha and beta receptors. It causes tachycardia, bronchodilation that improves airway obstruction, and restlessness from central nervous system stimulation. Palpitations are also a common side effect. Hypotension is a sign of an allergic reaction; after administration, it should improve rather than worsen.
