Explanation ·

SSRI(選擇性血清素回收抑制劑)是治療憂鬱症的常用藥,但其療效展現緩慢。

SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are commonly used to treat depression, but their therapeutic effects develop slowly. The client must take the medication for several weeks to achieve a stable blood level and improve mood. The nurse must educate the client not to stop the medication on their own because of initial lack of effect, and never to combine it with MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), as this can cause the fatal 'serotonin syndrome.' Teaching emphasizes adherence and monitoring for side effects.
