低血鈣導致神經肌肉興奮性增高。Trousseau's 徵象（打氣筒測壓後手腕屈曲）與 Chvostek's 徵象（輕敲顏面神經引發抽動）是診斷低血鈣的經典臨床指標。肌肉抽動亦是興奮性增加表現。Babinski 徵象與中樞神經受損有關，非低血鈣特徵。
Hypocalcemia increases neuromuscular excitability. Trousseau's sign (carpal spasm after inflation of a blood pressure cuff) and Chvostek's sign (facial twitching elicited by tapping the facial nerve) are classic clinical indicators for diagnosing hypocalcemia. Muscle twitching is also a manifestation of increased excitability. The Babinski sign is associated with central nervous system injury and is not a feature of hypocalcemia.
