The mechanism of action of warfarin involves vitamin K antagonism. Ingesting large amounts of dark green leafy vegetables (rich in vitamin K) will decrease the drug's effectiveness. In addition, NSAIDs such as aspirin can increase bleeding risk. Patient teaching should focus on bleeding prevention during anticoagulant therapy and the stability of drug metabolism.
