意識鎮靜（Conscious Sedation / Moderate Sedation）雖然病人保持清醒且能維持呼吸道通暢，但其風險在於深度鎮靜可能導致呼吸抑制（Respiratory Depression）或呼吸道阻塞。因此，床邊必須隨時準備急救車（Crash cart），內含氣管插管設備（Endotracheal intubation supplies）、抽吸裝置（Suction）與急救藥物，以便在病人發生呼吸道緊急狀況時能立即介入。
Although the client undergoing conscious (moderate) sedation remains awake and maintains a patent airway, the risk is that deeper sedation may cause respiratory depression or airway obstruction. Therefore, a crash cart with endotracheal intubation supplies, suction, and emergency medications must be available at the bedside at all times so that the nurse can intervene immediately if a respiratory emergency occurs.
美國對於執行意識鎮靜的護理師要求必須具備 ACLS 證照，且必須有專門的護理師全程監測生命徵象（Capnography/Pulse Oximetry），台灣雖有規範但美國對於「監測」與「急救設備」的準備要求極為嚴格。
