A nurse is administering a dose of subcutaneous enoxaparin to a client. Which nursing action demonstrates correct technique?
- AMassage the injection site vigorously after withdrawal
- BExpel the air bubble in the pre-filled syringe before injection
- CPinch the skin fold and inject at a 90-degree angle✓
- DInject the medication into the client's deltoid muscle
Enoxaparin is a low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) used clinically to prevent thrombosis. The injection technique must strictly follow the principles for preventing local bruising and tissue injury. The correct procedure is to choose the subcutaneous tissue of the abdomen, pinch a skin fold, and insert the needle at a 90-degree angle to ensure that the drug is delivered into the subcutaneous fat rather than into muscle. The air bubble in the prefilled syringe is intentionally included to ensure that the entire dose is injected and should not be expelled, in order to reduce skin irritation from drug residue at the needle tip.
