To prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), nurses should reinforce placing infants on their backs for every sleep, keeping soft objects and loose bedding out of the crib, using a firm mattress with a tight-fitting sheet, and offering a pacifier at naptime and bedtime. Bed-sharing should be avoided as it significantly increases the risk of suffocation and SIDS.
