Sterile technique requires the hands to remain within the line of sight and above the waist; anything below the waist is considered contaminated. When donning gloves, the first hand to be gloved may only touch the inside of the glove (the cuff fold), and the second hand may then touch the outside of the glove (the sterile surface). The outside must not be touched, the sterile field must not be crossed, and adjustments to the cuff may only contact the inner fold of the glove.
